  • Yesterday and today is about building the blog. Why the hell am I building it and not using something off the shelf? I have geeky reasons. Wordpress is extremely bloated with about a thousand features I don't need. I also have a lot of bespoke features in mind which would mean hacking the hell out of any open source CMS. In particular, GreensAssemble.com needs to be a community, not an Alex Hilton megaphone. So all users should be able to post, while maintaining appropriate moderation. I also want some site content only available to members. Finally, I'm committed to fully edge hosting (with a tunnel to a postgres database). These all add up to building my own CMS easier than potentially breaking someone else's code.
